5-Minute Amazing Avocado Shake Recipe

When I first heard about Vietnamese Avocado Shakes, I was incredulous that something connected to avocados existed without me knowing about it. Well, turns out that the Vietnamese cuisine kept this delicious secret for quite some time, just that it’s better known as Sinh tố bơ. Of course, I had to try it. At first it felt weird using avocados in a traditionally sweet drink like a smoothie or a milkshake, which the Sinh tố bơ is. But let me tell you, the results were amazing.

The traditional smoothie uses a combination of regular milk and super sweet condensed milk, and a lot of it, namely half a cup! That results in an admittedly delicious creamy blend of avocado and milk, but it was simply too sugary and sweet for me. It felt too much like a “naughty food”, so I decided to adjust the recipe to make it healthy, but without losing the creamy deliciousness of the original.

I ended up substituting the condensed milk with organic honey and reducing the amount of it to about two teaspoons. You could also use agave nectar or one teaspoon of condensed milk and one of either honey or agave nectar if you are particular about the taste of condensed milk.

Either way, this smoothie certainly packs a punch. But I have learned that what we think of as “bad” ingredients is often just stuff we overuse. As long as you keep using those ingredients in moderation, I promise you don’t have to feel guilty about it.

Besides, the banana and spinach we use in the smoothie more than make up for that little teaspoon of joy you get from condensed milk. Not to mention the benefits you’ll get anyhow from the avocado. And the creamy consistency of the Vietnamese-inspired avocado shake will blow your taste buds to cloud nine, I promise.

Preparation time: 5 minutes


  • 1 avocado
  • 1 banana
  • 3/4 cup nondairy milk
  • 2 tbsp organic honey or agave (or 1 tbsp of honey or agave if you are adding 1 tbsp condensed milk)
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 1/4 cup of spinach


  1. Blend everything
  2. Seat down, relax and enjoy your shake
